Posted on Thu, 26 Nov 2015
Question: Dear Dr. Sheppe,
I am on Lexapro 15 mg, Klonopin 3 mg, Solian (amisulpride) 100 mg and Keppra 1000mg. My psychiatrist is going to try in few days a lower dose of Solian, 50 mg, i guess for a while. I would like to know how long does it take to feel the benefit of a withdrawal from 100 mg to 50 mg of Amisulpride.
Thanks, XXXXXXX

Brief Answer:
Consultation

Detailed Answer:
Hello XXXXXXX So good to hear from you again. I hope this message finds you well.

As you are probably aware, Solian has activity at D2, D3, and 5-HT7 receptors. The somatic side effects mediated at this receptors typically have onset of action within a matter of days, usually after about 4-5 half-lives, or 4-5 days. So you will probably experience relief from the somatic side effects you may be experiencing within a matter of days. In terms of psychogenic effects, these take longer in terms of onset/offset, typically between one and eight weeks, with maximum effect usually seen in the four to eight week range. So you may notice changes in the psychotropic effects of this medication in that time period.

For your situation, I recall this dose is being lowered because you want to avoid OCD-like anxiety side effects of this medication. I consider this a psychogenic effect of this medication. This means it may take as short as a week to see effects, but full changes will probably occur in the four to eight week range.

Let me know if you have any further questions about this dosage decrease. As always, it's a pleasure to talk with you.
