Brief Answer:
may be infection

Detailed Answer:
Hi
Thanks for your query.

This type of chills associated with pains may suggest urinary tract infection or pelvic infection. Have we ruled that out? We should get at least urine exam, urine culture, pelvic ultrasound, blood counts and blood culture.

If all of these are normal, it may be due generalised weakness, which would gradually improve with time and improving nutrition and mobilisation.

Hope this helps.
Regards

She has one ostomy bag for both urine and stool. can the urine be tested if it contains some stool? Also the pain she feels is around the operation areas and her grions and lower back. Usually urinary track infection pain is when one urinates and that is not the case due to the ostomy bag.

thanks

Brief Answer:
yes we can test the urine

Detailed Answer:
We can test the urine from the urostomy bag and see if there is any infection. She does not have the bladder it seems. So urinary tract infection may not show the usual features as in a normal individual. It may present like the symptoms she is having (because of involvement of upper urinary system (kidneys). Groin pain may be because of pelvic infection.

Thanks for replying, can one have infection and not run a high temperature?

Brief Answer:
YES

Detailed Answer:
this is possible, especially in immunocompromised and cancer patients.

What I mean to say is that we need to rule out infection before attributing everything to general post-operative problems.
