How Long Can One Continue Hydrocodone And Xanax For Stress And Sleeplessness?

Question: My mother has been taking hydrcodon 10's and uses them as prescribed, no more than one or two a day. She also take 2mg bar Xanax with little bites of it all day long for stress. She also takes one hole Xanax and an Ambien to sleep. She claims she does not abuse her medication and I agree and don't agree. She has been on the regime for more than ten, maybe fifteen years and I believe that the meds could be having reverse side effects at this time as she has become very negative about life and very depressed. One more thing. She smoked heavily for forty five years and only recently quit do to having two lobes removed and suffering through chemo. She now blames everything. On "chemo brain" but I believe it goes way back to her previous habits. And her doctors alo hve her on Cumadin and Wellbutrin. Can all of these things be causing a lot of trouble?

Brief Answer:
No, in her case drugs are not casung so much trouble what you think

Detailed Answer:
hello,

Thanks for writing to us.

I read your mother's history. What you are thinking about hydrocodone and xanax is not true for her case.
xanax and hydrocodone are dependance causing and abusive drugs. But at the same time they are pain killer and stress reducing. You have mentioned that she is taking as per doctor's prescription, that is good. Actually her doctor is aware about her situation and prescribing her for relief.
Considering age of 68, we need to balance usefulness and side effects of the both drugs. As she has left smoking, undergone surgery and taken chemo, she is likely to suffer from pain, stress and depression. All of factors favor the use of hydrocodone and xanax for her treatment. As well as cumadin and wellbutrin are also needed in her case.

In my opinion her negative attitudes are due to her physical condition, aging, long history of smoking as well as chemo also.

Do not need to think about her current and past medicines are troubling her. Her doctor is doing right treatment.

Hope I have answered your query, I will be glad to answer more queries if there.
