Brief Answer:
Rituximab destroys B lymphoytes

Detailed Answer:
Hi,

Thanks for your query.

Rituximab is an monoclonal antibody against the protein CD20, which is primarily found on the surface of immune system B lymphocytes (one of the white blood cells-defense cells). Rituximab destroys B cells and is therefore used to treat diseases which are characterized by excessive numbers of B cells or conditions caused by abnormal B cells.

Pemphigus is one such blistering autoimmune diseases that affect the skin and mucous membranes. In here there are abnormal B lymphocytes which release a lot of antibodies which destroy the skin integrity and cause the bullous lesions.

Rituximab targets such abnormal B cells and helps in treating the Pemphigus.

Hope, I answered your query.
