Brief Answer:
Hydrocodone is much stronger then Tramadol, rest they are same

Detailed Answer:

Hi,

There is no big difference between the two drugs .A brief description of the two is given here.
1. Both of them are opioid analgesic and used for severe pain.
2. Both have potential for abuse so both are prescribed medicine only.
3. However hydrocodone is much stronger then tramadol and hence used for very severe pain.
4. Hydrocodone being much stronger have more potentials for abuse and addiction. it can also causes respiratory depression (difficulty in breathing) which is least with tramadol
5. Tramadol is synthetic (man made) hydrocodone is semi synthetic.
6. Besides pain killer effect, Tramadol has a second effect of mode elevation as well which is not there with hydrocodone. Hence tramadol may be better option for long term pain relief.

So in brief we can say tramadol is not much different then hydrocodone except that it is much weaker then hydrocodone.

Hope I have answered your question. I will be glad to answer any further question about this.
