How Do You Treat Extreme Itchy Skin In The Groin, Buttocks And Anal Regions?

Question: Hi,
I went to the clinic in January for what I thought was a case of jock itch, I was received a prescription for a cream, it helped but hasn't cleared up the infection entirely. I'm just about out of the cream, whatever I have going on doesn't seem to be jock itch. My symptoms are itchy skin in the groin area but not on my testicles and I have itchy skin all along my anal area, from the top of my butt crack down to my anus. Since using the cream, the level of itching has gone from an 8 to an level 3. The skin in this area always seem to be moist and slick (possibly because of the cream). Please help.

Brief Answer:
Kindly upload images

Detailed Answer:

Hello,

Perhaps you have Intertrigo - inflammation of body folds. Sweat, heat, humidity are predisposing factors.

I request you to kindly upload a few images of the affected area in "Reports Section" so that I am able to confirm and guide you better.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Hi Dr.,

The name of the cream I was given is Clotrimazole/Betameth Cream, generic for Lotrisone. The pictures don't show too well the tiny bumps around the infected area. I hope you can prescribe something for me, I've been suffering with this itchiness since early January.
Thanks, XXXXXXX XXXX

Brief Answer:
Regarding your groin itch

Detailed Answer:

Hi,

The tiny bumps are actually due to thickening of the skin due to chronic scratching.

I suggest you take an oral antihistamine e.g. Cetrizine tab once every evening for symptomatic relief from itching.

You may continue with the generic cream for the time being.

Later you may use an antifungal dusting powder e.g. clotrimazole dusting powder, in these body folds.

Avoid scratching. Continue with the oral antihistamine e.g. Cetrizine tab for a longer duration.

Hope I have answered your query.

Regards,
Dr. Kakkar S., Dermatologist
