Posted on Wed, 3 Jan 2024
Question: Hi Doctor, My sister married in blood relation ie she married to my Mom's elder brother's son. What are the things she needs to think or have to do before conceiving? How can we avoid any complications in future?

What are the treatments available for those who are married in blood relation? Is everything alright?

When does she need to visit the doctor? Before or after conceiving?

As a family, we are concerned about my Sister and her future baby.

Brief Answer:
The possible genetic defects are unavoidable.

Detailed Answer:
Hello,
I can understand your concern. Getting married among the blood relations increases the chances of genetic related disorders in the children which are mostly unpredictable and unavoidable. They need to consult a genetic counselor before planning to conceive so that they know about the likely genetic defects that their future child might have.
The treatment can be done only after a defect is detected.
Hope this answer is helpful.
Any further queries are welcome.
Regards.
