How Can Right Knee Weakness Be Managed When Knee Replacement Is Not An Option?

default
Posted on Sat, 26 Nov 2022
Question: Hello. I have corresponded with you in the past regarding right knee weakness ( no pain). I have declined knee replacement at this time, as suggested. Instead, I take anti- inflammatory meds and have a customized knee brace prescribed by Ortho Surgeon. I have asked about collagen injections to the knee but I have abruptly been told I do not qualify. I have not been fully informed as to why I do not qualify. I am in fairly good health except for controlled hypertension. I just turned 71. Two surgeons ( not including you) stated no knee replacement at this time but I really don't like the knee brace. my oldest daughter has knee problems and she had injections. Since speaking with you, I lost my youngest daughter in a horrific vehicle accident.

Brief Answer:
Oral glucosamine supplements can help.

Detailed Answer:

Hello,

For only knee weakness without any pain, joint lubricant injections are not needed. Knee strengthening exercises are a better choice and you can do it under the guidance of a proficient physiotherapist.

Anti inflammatory agents can take care of any mild pain. In case there is a persistent pain then you can start with oral joint lubricant supplements like Glucosamine and chondroitin after consulting your orthopedist. Some of these supplements are available OTC also and will help in improvement of your symptoms and in delaying the surgery.

I hope this answers your query. In case you have additional questions or doubts, you can forward them to me, and I shall be glad to help you out. Wishing you good health.
