How Can Persistent Dandruff And Itchy Scalp Despite Using Different Shampoos Be Treated?

Question: Having dandruff and itchy scalp. I've tried using different shampoos but they don't seem to work that effectively as dandruff and itchy scalp still remains. Please advise.

Detailed Answer:

Hi,

For dandruff I would recommend you to use a shampoo containing combination of ketoconazole and salicylic acid twice weekly and apply lotion containing combination of beclomethasone and clotrimazole on the itchy and scaly areas of the scalp twice daily.

Also take anti fungal medicine like capsule itraconazole 100 mg once daily for 3 weeks
For itching take antihistaminic like tablet Levocetirizine 5 mg once or twice daily depending on the intensity of itching for few days.

Dandruff doesn’t have a permanent cure.
Once the itching decreases you can slowly taper down the frequency of application of lotion but you need to continue with the shampoo. These are prescription drugs and should be taken under the supervision of the doctor.
