How Can One Confirm That Bronchitis Symptoms Are Not Due To Exposure To A Late Spouse With AIDS?

Posted on Fri, 12 May 2023
Question: I have never smoked but have been diagnosed with chronic bronchitis. My husband died of complications due to HIV or AIDS never did get a true diagnosis in 2001, but I was aware of his diagnosis in 1999. Been tested even at 6 month intervals. However, in 2012 I was diagnosed with chronic bronchitis read that this is one of the symptoms of AIDs. How can I be sure that I am not infected and the cause of the bronchitis? I am currently using Stilolto Respimat 2.5 and Asmanex HFA 100 mcg 2 puffs twice a day and wheezing. Breathing test results vary. Did allergy testing only told that I have a lot of allergies to date.

Brief Answer:
HIV and chronic bronchitis

Detailed Answer:

Hi,

I see two important queries in your mind through this query.
1) Do I have HIV and if that is the reason for chronic bronchitis.

== You can get a high sensitive screening test for HIV, called ELISA. If this is negative you do not need to go further. If this is positive you can get Western blot test to confirm HIV which is specific test.

2) Reason for chronic bronchitis
== Chronic bronchitis may not be due to HIV but due to damage done to cilia in bronchus by second hand smoke, air pollution, industrial or chemical fumes, and toxic gases all these years of living. Age can also contribute to diminishing immunity.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Thank you.

All standard labs are private for tests

Hi,

You can either go to your PCP or go directly to a standard lab for the test. They maintain absolute secrecy.
