How Can Neck Pain After Whiplash Injury And Hair Line Fracture Be Treated?

default
Posted on Thu, 7 Sep 2017
Question: Hello! About 8 months ago I suffered a concussion. I had a hairline fracture on the back of my skull (hairline) and I also had a brain bleed. I also had whiplash. Recently I started physiotherapy for neck pain. Yesterday when I went they did neck exercises and then put heat and a tens machine on the back of my neck. It was about half way down my neck. They told me it was set on low, but I did feel a prickly sensation and they adjusted it. It was on my neck for approximately 15 min and when they took it off I could feel the pad was half way onto my spine in the middle on the back of my neck (if this makes sense). Could this cause problems with my spine or my previous injury. When I asked, they said no, it can slide over onto your spine, but nothing to worry about. I just did not want it to affect my head or the healing process of that. I wanted your opinion. Thank you. XXXXXXX

Brief Answer:
You can continue physiotherapy and TENs stimulation

Detailed Answer:
Hello,
I have gone through your question and understand your concern.
The injury and hair line fracture is old enough to heal completely.
The application of heat or TENS stimulation will not cause any damage or aggravation in previous conditions.
Avoid prolonged session.
Neck pain may be muscular and can get relieved by pain killers with muscle relaxant and local pain reliever ointment.
Physiotherapy should be done.
Hope you found the answer helpful.
