How Can Eyelid Swelling And Redness In The Eyes Be Treated?

default
Posted on Wed, 23 Aug 2017
Question: My eye lids are constantly swollen and eyes constantly red. Both my eyelids are swollen and no itching or anything, they feel heavy at times though. I use minoxidil solution on scalp for hair loss and other than that no medication. The problem is the swelling is present through out the day 24x7 and from past 1 and half year. I have tried taking Allergan eye drops for possible allergy but to no avail.

Brief Answer:
Most likely its blepheritis.

Detailed Answer:
Hi,
Thanks for query.

Your description is suggestive of blepheritis.
Blepharitis is a condition wherein the glands on the base of the eyelashes get clogged; thus causing inflammation, red eye and irritation. Blepharitis affects both the eyes. Several diseases may cause Blepharitis, making it difficult to treat the chronic condition.

Medicines are,
Eye drop Moxifloxacin 2 drops twice daily(antibacterial).
Eye drop Naphazoline 1 drop twice daily
Syrup Allegra (Fexofenadine) 180 mg once daily.(antihistaminic) before going to bed.
Tab Amoxicillin 1000mg twice daily , you may need to get a prescription from your local doctor for this.

Wash eye three times with cold water.
Don't rub eyes.

Follow up after 7 days.

Thank you.
