How Can Elevated SGPT And SGOT Levels Be Treated?

Question: My age 28 years height 5'6" weight 72 Kg. My SGPT & SGOT are 97 & 85 respectively, all other liver function test reports including alkaline phosphate are normal. For high SGPT/SGOT I am unfit in medical to get visa. I have been given 10 days to improve. Sir how can I achieve it. I m taking Liv 52, three tabs thrice daily & taking plenty of fruits and vegetables. Rice & wheat minimised.

Hi,

Clinically both liver enzymes under 100 are considered ok and no intervention is planned. However since it's affecting you, I will urge you to visit a gastroenterologist and identify if any known cause is the reason for elevation. The causes could be an infection, current lifestyle, smoking/alcohol if any, unnecessary medication use and so on. The cause should be treated only then enzyme level will fall back.

It is Ok to take liver-protective herbs. In addition, while you plan to see the doctor, please consider quitting smoking/alcohol if any, start exercise to lower weight, sleep well, meditate and stay relaxed.

Liver enzymes as discussed earlier gets elevated due to some causes. They would stay elevated if the cause persists. If we are unable to address the cause of liver-protective supplements, avoiding unnecessary medicines including pain killers, weight management and quitting smoking/alcohol are the available treatment options.

Pleases consult and discuss with a gastroenterologist to find the cause.
