How Can Chronic Anosmia Be Treated?

default
Posted on Wed, 16 Aug 2017
Question: I have lost my sense of smell about 6 years ago. I later read that Zicam nasal swabs could be the cause. Sometimes I can't smell anything, sometimes my sense of smell is incorrect and my right nasal passage always feels as if it's 'plugged up' I also suffer many 'sinus headaches' around my eyes. If this was indeed caused by zinc swabs, is there any cure or way to reverse this? Life with no sense of smell, and little correct sense of taste is very scary. XXXXXXX XXXXXXX XXXX

Brief Answer:
Anosmia

Detailed Answer:
Hi
Welcome to healthcare magic and thanks for putting up the query
Anosmia can be due to many reasons like sinusitis or nasal pathology or hormonal cause etc.
You should get a x-ray paranasal sinuses done and a thyroid function test done.
As you have nasal blockage also, probably the cause is a nasal pathology.
Use a fluticasone nasal spray twice daily for a week.
All the medicines I have prescribed will be available at prescription only.
Follow up with the required information so that I can suggest you better.
Take care
Thanks and regards
