How Can A Skin Rash In Children Be Treated?

Question: Hi,

When i picked my daughter up today she had a weird rash. Can you tell what this is? We are at an urgent care center but it is a long wait and i am worried.

Hypersensitivity can be due to a number underlying mechanisms. This one is likely to be immune mediated. It would need further examination and investigation for confirmation.

The doctor prescribed Zyrtec. How long does this usually last? Could this turn into a worse reaction?

Zyrtec should provide relief.

Detailed Answer:
Zyrtec is an antiallergic. It needs to be given once daily for next few days. Usually the episode resolves within a few days. It is difficult to predict the progression since the trigger is unknown. Id the trigger is no longer present, worsening is unlikely.
