How Can A Benign Renal Cyst Be Treated?

default
Posted on Thu, 2 Feb 2017
Question: In May 2016, I had a follow up MRI for a benign renal cyst, that showed "a tiny barely perceptible cyst on the tail of the pancreas". My gi doc said do a follow up on 3-6 months. I did a follow up in Dec. 2016 which showed "tiny cysts on pancreas". My gi doc said forget about them an do another MRI in 1-2 years.

I can send the MRI reports.

Please give me your opinion.

Brief Answer:
Hi looks like not much to worry about

Detailed Answer:
Hello
Welcome to HCM.
Thank you for your query.
I can understand your concern.

Well, tiny barely perceptible cyst in pancreas are really not to worry about especially when the size has remained static in six months and that these are few in number. Likely that these could be possibly be simple cysts like those in kidneys. Even monitoring them is probably not necessary. But repeating an MRI after 1year should Alley ANXIETY too.

Hope this answers your questions.
Feel free to ask further.
Best wishes.

Detailed Answer:
Hello
Thank you for your query
Well since the cyst is small in size and not fitting into any particular type on mri and has been stable for an year then next evaluation is after 2years with an Mri.
Long term prognosis is likely to be good.
Please reconfirm this with your treating gastroenterologist.
Best wishes.

So, would your expectations be based on the MRI reports that these will stay benign indefinitely?

Since the first 2 MRI's were 6 months apart and they were stable, does that mean they will continue to be?

Is there any correlation between these cysts and pancreatic cancer? Do the cysts raise the risk of getting cancer?

Is there a way the cyst can be removed?

I am looking for peace of mind.

Would they be able to classify the cyst based on the MRI?

Detailed Answer:
Thank u for your query
I understand your concern
You need to get rid of your anxiety first.
Since those cysts are so small and static on mri likely they are benign.
Risk of cancer is very low. They are too small to be characterized on mri too.
No medication or surgery will help now.
So relax. Keep folly with your gastroenterologist.
Best wishes.
Sorry for the delay in responding.

What are the odds of them staying benign indefinitely?

What are the odds of them being gone on the next MRI?

I was told it could take them as long as 30 years to change to something bad?

Would these cysts shorten my normal life expectancy as long as I keep following them?

If one were to rarely change, can it be found and cured with intervention?

Also, I am having the gastric sleeve procedure, would they still be able to do an Ercp and eus?

Brief Answer:
Difficult to predict all that

Detailed Answer:
Hi

Difficult to predict all that
Unlikely they may resolve spontaneously.
Since they cannot be characterized on MRI difficult to prognostication.
But gut feeling is you should have a normal lifespan.
Eus and ERCP should not be a problem.

Best wishes
