Hi Yes. I Had A Dental Implant (well 4 ).

Question: Hi yes. I had a dental implant (well 4 ). One had a bone graft and went under sinus. He did the procedure in January of this year. Then about 2 weeks later I get a big sinus infection. I get milder ones every year due to allergies/asthma. So I thought it was this. I was put on steroids and antibiotics by my allergist. It did not go. I was out on it again. Finally I realize something is wrong. The infection was worse than ever. So I saw my doc had a mri. A huge mass was seen. So he referred me to Ent for a balloon sinuplasty. Which I was told was successful. I healed in about a month. And I have been mostly problem free for April/may. So I decided to finish up some of the work on teeth. I’m not missing 4 teeth! As the dentist had to undo two. And pull out another tooth. Maybe decay? Caused sinus problem ? I’ll never know.

I just had work done. 3 teeth in front of sinus. To finish that implant that stayed ok. And then the bottom one. In back I had too. I’m too afraid to redo other failed ones yet. As unfortunately. I got anothe r ainus infection now! Again! Two days after he worked on that side but three teeth up from sinus. Just to prep to place finished implant. Screw is already in. And my new dentist who is highly trained and even teaches students the procedure. He said it’s a coincidence. My infection comes two days after. It’s almost as bad as first one. I took a course or steroids and I’m on my 7th day of augmentin. And I’m stiff with severe pressure and tired some. It’s not as bad but pretty bad. My doc is putting me on another course of augmentin. After this. But it it still won’t heal? Another sinuplasty?
I’m so upset. I was hoping for beautiful teeth. Nicer than my failed bridge. Now I have no teeth. And three need to be done on other side of upper mouth as that bridge won’t last forever Need it soon.
I’m wondering do you think the area still has bacteria or something. So that if anything even around it is touched an manipulated an infection will occur? Or is it a coincidence like my dentist says.
Shall I proceed with the work little by little. Or am I not a candid7for implants? I’m woriried. I want implants. I saved for them. I’m was infortunte with my real teeth and now at 60 ; they are Failing. Well 6 of them. That’s a lot and I’d be toothless on top. Almost. As a healthy otherwise female. That just isn’t appealing.
Please advise anything you can re: this. Oh my dentist said the xrays showed other surgeon left a small amount of the bone graft still in. Around sinus area. He asked me why? I dint know? He said there isn’t decay seen from ex ray and told me that is absolutely not the reason I got sinus infection so bad again. But I’m worried and I wonder about it all. Do you think I’ll, ever get my teeth? Fixed properly. And my sinus will heal? Will I need another sinuplasty? Ughhh why?

And is it fairly safe enough to start more work during Covid. I live in a suburb Of Los Angeles. Numbers are slight,y high. Ore than some areas. But definitely not the highest. He sanitizes everything. Wears gloves masks has a uv air sanitizer germ guardian. I bought one for my home too

Brief Answer:
Go for new xray to evaluate condtion of sinus and go for opg of mouth also

Detailed Answer:
Hello
Thanks for consulting Ask a doctor service.
This is Dr Priyanka answering your query .

I have read your query and understand your concern as far as sinus infection is concerned consult a Ent surgeon and go for new xray to evaluate the present condition of your sinus and dont be worried so much it is not necessary that you always have to go for sinuplasty may be this time you wont have that severe infection .

As far as replacement of teeth with implant is concerned see implant treatment depend on type of bone present and your systemic condition. So if your bone type is supportive for implant placement then implant will be successful otherwise i will suggest you to go for other treatment option like cast partial prosthesis or fixed bridge prosthesis. If possible kindly upload the picture of your mouth and xray opg of your mouth so that i can give you more treatment options for replacement of your teeth.

I will also suggest wait for few days to start treatment as your age is 60 years and for this age it is recommended to stay at home during covid. If possible avoid going out and stay safe at home.

Thanks
Hope this will help you
If you have further query i will be happy to help.

I thank you for your prompt answer. I will see my ent next week. I hope you are correct, no new sinuplasty. It’s a awful experience so I doubt I will do another bone graft under sinus. I will try to get you the exrays. Soon. I appreciate your opinion. As far as Covid and numbers increasing. I don’t know what to do. I think both ways. As yes I’m 60. But I’m not 65. My teeth are so bad and I just get nightmares of losing more. So I thought since Covid is not going away for a long time. I would start little bits at a time. We will have a lockdown most likely again. I felt one more procedure would I pray I have extra hope w teeth and not Covid of course. Well see it’s a gamble. But I think so is leaving my teeth and doing nothing for as long as Covid takes. Is not good either? He did see another root canal that must be done. Don’t know how long that can wait. So I was going to go in and do this plus finish up the two successful implants. He suggested starting one more on bottom which has enough bone. Wow. I’ll work on getting X-rays. Ty so much

Oh this is so nice to have this service. Yes I will call dentist for X-ray. I hope I can upload etc. I had just a couple extra questions. I see ent next week as infection is not gone after steroids /augmenton.

All the docs are being so sanitary. I’m so grateful for this. Very. Very.
Life can be slightly normal due to this.
Question 1) my doctor always asks. Am I irrigating sinus. I started again as infection returned and not healing fast. But I worry about virus in rinse. I double sanitize spray tip With hydrogen peroxide or 70% alsohol. Before and after use. But I worry. He said neilmed is best. The spray bottle you make solution w distilled water and their packets.
But it always scares me. I do it bur for the amount of worry in me I stopped.

I bought the cans you spray in your none that are premade. He says they really don’t get in there. So I bought a brand called ocean. A premade saline solution it also has benzakonium chloride and phenylcarbinol in it. It has a unusual smell but I’m feeling safer w this for some odd reason? And it’s not costly like the saline on,y spray cans. What do you think. ? Gosh I appreciate this so much

Also I’m a big exercise person. I do two Zumba classes online almost every day. One day rest. Sometimes I e felt it exacerbated the sinus but most,y I feel it makes no diff. And I lower the impact when I’m tired or sinus are worse that day. What do you think?

Ok. Ty. I’ll try hard to get X-ray. I’m so grateful to yiu. Ty. XXXXXXX

I have gone through your query see sinus infection or having allergy is slightly common so no need to worry so much as you are asking for spray in my opinion premade solution will be good option as there ratio of solution is accurately mixed. So consult your ENT before going for spray.
Excercise is good for health. It makes no difference. I will suggest you to consult your doctor and go for yoga that will also good for your health.

Hope this will help you .

Wow ok so this X-ray does not show upper left teeth. Where the sinus infection first occurred. I have three missing teeth on upper left too unfortunately. And that’s the area they grafted under the sinus back in early February. That’s where the infection got so big they took out the work on two teeth. One under sinus. That I needed a sinuplasty early March. And I’m left with one implant that is next to front tooth. I recently had a new dentist work on that one tooth by front tooth. To finish up. To put on the implant tooth. Two days after I get a new sinus infection. I had to go on steroids and I’m still on augmentin three weeks later. It’s still there. So I’m going back to ENT Friday. But my question was for upper left side, rest is fine.

The new dentist says it is a coincidence I got a new infection. And the work he did was 3 teeth away from sinus. Couldn’t have caused anything in sinus. I really afraid but I need to finish up that tooth next week. He says I’ll be fine. I got to trust I guess. I really want teeth.its awful walking around this way need Badly. And a new partial until I finally I get brave and complete top left side.

So the X-ray they gave me shows no top left side? This X-ray came from a third opinion dentist I’m not using

Yes xray reports you have uploaded not showing of upper sinus region. Replace your missing teeth by partial denture or implant as you have sufficient bone and rest is fine . i also understand you feel awful with missing teeth. So consult dentist for replacement of teeth.

Consult Ent surgeon for sinus infection and get new xray of left upper region for evaluation.

Hope this will help you.

I give up. Well maybe I’ll try again. This is the first dentist. I decided on another one. And why they left out the xrays that matter? Anyway. I will call again. This has been and will continue to be a project for me. But worth the effort The new dentist. He admits the vibration under sinus can disrupt the area. But he thinks I should do it again? They all want to do it again. But I d t. I will do a bridge there. Maybe do the teeth around it? Do you think that would work? They need bone graft but not as much he said on one next to it.
I r,emeber the first dentist said the one under sinus needed a lot of bone. I’ll try to get X-ray. If not. Ty for all your help

Consult your dentist and get the xray. Yes for implant sufficient amount of bone should be present under sinus. If bone is not sufficient for implant placement then bone graft is used during treatment. If you have symptom of re infection in sinus and bone is less then you can go for other treatment option instead of doing again.

I will also suggest if implant is not successful in that region then you can go for fixed partial bridge.

Hope this will help you.

Hi Yes. I Had A Dental Implant (well 4 ).
