Question: Hi there Dr. XXXXXXX My name is Muse. We have talked before. I hope you remember me. I am just updating you with my colonoscopy result. So did the colonoscopy, and the doctor also took a biopsy. He told me the colon was clear and everything is normal. He took the biopsy to conduct more test and see if there are other issues, such as Crohn's disease. I just went to the doctor office today to see the biopsy result. And it shows that everything good. After the colonoscopy, my bowel movement(bm) gotten much better. But the last 4 or 5 days, after consuming beets root, high fiber smoothies, ans some spicy meals, my constipation is back to the previous. I asked the doctor(he is a very prominent colorectal surgent in the los angeles area) why i had severe constipation, he said that i am young and my body is burning the food, and also prescribed me probiotics. I started the probiotics today. Also said that it is unnecessary to conduct additional tests, including MRI. He thinks everything is ok. But i think something is not right in my body. I have a feeling that there might be another place where the stool is being stored. What are your thoughts Dr?

How much of this issue do you think can be caused by stress or depression?

Thank you, and hope to hear from you soon!!

Brief Answer:
Follow up answer.

Detailed Answer:
Hi,
Thanks for follow up,
Stress may over-activate the nerves that connect the brain and the gut and hence may cause or worsen constipation.
Stress anxiety or depression can be a cause in your case.
If you feel you are in stress or anxiety i would recommend you to take proper medicines to curb it.
You can start with natural supplements like Lactium twice daily(effective in anxiety).
Along with it you can medicate.
If not relieved in a month then you can consult a pyschiatrist for prescription medicines.
He may prescribe to you medication like Xanax.

Till that time for bowel moments you can use over the counter fleet enemas or laxatives like Miralax.
If you gastroenterologist feel that MRI is not required then don't go for MRI right now as colonoscopy is normal(wait till biopsy results).
Hope i was helpful,
Follow ups are welcome.
Thank you
