Hi My Concern Is For MILK THISTLE SILYMARIN My Wife
Question: Hi my concern is for MILK THISTLE SILYMARIN
my wife had alcohol drink but her SGPT came 17 which 3 months ago was 13 but women’s SGPT value should always be less than 35
So is it true that women’s SGPT should be lower than 35 u/l only?
So may I know the reason why my wife SGPT value increased to 17 from 13 u/l ?
Also is it good for her to take silymarin milk thistle as supplement ?
She is not at all pregnant but she has PCOD issues
Also taking silymarin improves LFT so if my wife SGPT get lowers to 5 will there be an alarming issues?
Does taking SIlymarin milk thistle unnecessarily causes breast cancer or any other diseases ?
Can it be a life threatening?

Hello dear. I have gone through your query. So any value of SGPT below 19 units is taken as normal in females and values of 3 , 5 , 13, or 17 are considered all normal till they are under normal limits.
Silymarin supplement can be taken as it has no harmful effects. It is not related to breast cancer or any other life threatening issue.

Actually I read somewhere about silymarin with breast cancer issues.
So I hope it is very safe for her if she eats like this when there is no as such requirement in her case.
Also I would like to have advice for me as well as I also used to drink, last year in 2018 my SGPT was 64 in may 2018 then I eat silymarin till september and in september I got 35 as my SGPT but in winters I again had few drinks which again elevates my SGPT enzymes to 70 then since february 2019 I am also eating silymarin but it is not going down below 50 as for males normal unit is below 50 so it is being remained at 60 only this time so is there a chance that my body become consistent to silymarin ?
Also I eat junk food and paranthas with butter and and meals with butter and also drinks like carbonated drinks coke etc.
This time I again had few alcohol drinks and today when i again went for my SGPT test it came 90 u/l
But a month ago in ultrasound everything was normal.
I am worried more for myself as whenever i go for test in 14 days or in 4 days it always come elevated I regret now why I started again when once it decreased last year.
Please suggest what should I do to reduce lower down my SGPT level at fast?
Can this lead my liver to liver transplant issues ?

Also please avoid high fat containing diet.
Do regular exercises, this will bring the sgpt to normal levels and protect liver from further damage.

Well I had quit my drinking for one year I last drink on November 2018 then till November 2019 I did not touch but my enzymes did not went down then 60 even after taking silymarin as well so I drink again so I asked how many years it take for SGPT to get decreased in numbers ??

Hello dear. So elevation of SGPT is only taken significant if elevated 3 times of upper limit of normal. In your case 3 times will be more than 90. So i wont consider it as something abnormal. Moreover there are other causes of mild elevation of sgpt like diabetes, obesity and metabolic syndrome. You may require evaluation for these also, however still it doesnt seem alarming.
