Question: Hi doctor,

Will I need to do anything for my varicocele?

It never hurts nor does it cause any discomfort.

My testosterone levels are normal but I am just worried about my fertility.

Is it true that varicocele could cause low sperm production.

I expressed this worry to my doctor and she said the only time she saw anybody have fertility issues due to their varicocele was when the varicocele is unbearably painful. Is this true?

I also am curious to know what my grade my varicocele is.
I know grades 1 & 2 the varicocele isn't visible through the scrotum.
Sometime it is visible through my scrotum and other times it isn't but whenever I feel it I can clearly feel in my left testicle.

My question basically is if my varicocele is causing no other symptoms and no pain is low sperm production or low sperm quality still likely?

Based on the facts that you have posted you seem to have mild Varicocele

It is not the rule that every person with Varicocele will face issues of infertility It is the grade 3-4 Varicocele that usually is associated with infertility

In view of you having mild Varicocele you should not worry about fertility issue

what would the symptoms of grade 3 and 4 varicocele be?
Upon reading online, I believe grade 3 varicocele is defined as a visible lump in the scrotum? Sometimes i see it is visible and other times it is not. Sometimes I even feel my scrotum and I can't even find the varicocele but other times it does feel like a big lump of something.

fantastic. So even if my varicocele is sometimes visible chances of it being grade 3 are not likely if it is not causing any harm or pain? I don't feel any feeling at all with it.

Do you advise I do a sperm analysis just in case?

Doing colour Doppler Ultrasound Scan of the Scrotum will detect grade of Varicocele

and will treating the varicocele through surgery increase fertility?

is there a natural way of getting rid of it?

There is no scientific evidence of increasing sperm count after surgical correction of Varicocele hence no Surgeon would give guarantee of increasing sperm count.
