Question: Hi doctor, My 5 and 3 years old kids were bitten by dogs yesterday. Today, they received their first dose of anti rabies vaccine. The vaccine was given on the side of thigh. Is it the correct site for giving intramuscular injection in kids? I am attaching its image. Please clarify. The nurse who gave the injection said that is also a part of thigh. Plaster is pasted on the injection site.

I have emailed the image. I think the injection has been given at the correct site as the nurse gives injections to many kids. But, I still want to take your valuable opinion. I have attached the image here, too.

I have gone through your question, I understand your concern.
Actually, best site is ANTEROLATERAL aspect of thigh.
But injection has been given in lateral aspect.
But that is not much issue.
Do not worry at all.
ANTEROLATERAL aspect is best because, muscle mass is maximum there. But if baby is not experiencing severe pain, then do not worry.
I hope your query is clear now.

Hi Doctor, My 5 years old son is not feeling any pain but my 3 years old daughter is complaining of leg pain. So, will the anti rabies vaccine produce enough antibody to fight the rabies virus, as the vaccine has been given in lateral aspect? Is lateral aspect also a part of thigh? Do I need to restart the anti rabies vaccination schedule or continue with the remaining 4 dosages? I am very scared, hence asking so many questions.

Continue with original regimen.
Do not worry, vaccine will work fine. And yes, lateral aspect is also a part of thigh.
Basically, target is that, vaccine should enter the muscles , and that target was achieved.
I hope your query is clear now.
Thanks and regards
