Question: Hi,
What symptoms would you have if a portion of a condom was stuck to the wall of your bowel? The reason for asking is about two and a half years ago I had a situation where I was not sure if a broken condom was passed or if a piece of it was stuck inside me (not ingested, inserted). Would it be possible to have something like that stuck inside of you without knowing for that long? I have preety much had normal bowel activity for that time with the exception of loose bowels maybe a few times a year. abnormal smell has never been an issue either.

Hi,
Thanks for posting your query.

Broken/piece of condom will not get stuck to the wall of the bowel. It will get evacuated during bowel movements.

Hi,

OK, I understand that more than likely that was the case.

But, hypothetically if a foreign body like that was somehow able to stick to the wall of the bowel, what would happen? (I heard of a case where someone did not have a bowel movement for a few days and in that time the condom was able to stick to the bowel wall) Would there be an infection? Would the bowel wall become thin from the infection and possibly cause perforation? And finally, what would happen if a foreign body was stuck inside the bowel and more specifically stuck to the wall for two or more years?

Please, I am concerned and just would like to know any possibilities or scenarios.

Regards

Brief Answer:
Answer given below

Detailed Answer:
Hi,
The colon has protective mucosal lining and mucus secretion. So even if there are no bowel movements for a few days it will not result in infection due to the retained condom. It will not perforate the bowel.
And foreign body like condom will not remain stuck in the colon for two or more years.
Regards,
Dr.R.K.
