Question: Hi. What does the finding of a decompressed esophagus on a CT scan of the chest indicate? I have acid reflux symptoms over the last 3-4 weeks but have had chest pain/burning to the right of my heart (close to the middle of my chest) since october but thought it was heart related and over the last 3 days very sore/scratchy throat. Very concerned.

Brief Answer:
Sounds like sequelae to gastroesophageal reflux

Detailed Answer:
It sounds like sequelae to gastroesophageal reflux disease. Absolutely fine, but it may lead to narrowing of the esophagus and inflammation. The next step is to initiate proton pump inhibitor use (e.g. pantoprazole) and be referred for a gastroscopy.
