Question: Hi, I'm a 57 year old woman. I am 20 lbs overweight and I am apple shaped. 2 1/2 years ago my liver enzymes showed AST (sgot) was elevated to 41 and ALT (sgpt) was elevated at 50 3 mos later they were back to normal then 6 mos later they were raised into the 40s and 50s again then 2mos later they were normal again and now 8 mos later the AST (sgot) is up to 94 and the alt (sgpt) is 100. My cholesterol level is up from 199 to 214. My ALK Phos is up to 118 also. I have not had any alcohol in 28 years so that can't be the problem. I do take aspirin a couple days a week and also take advil and tylenol when needed which often is once a day I also take something with doxylamine a few times a week for sleep. My prescribed my medicines are Synthroid and hydrochlorazide. I was 30 lbs overweight I lost 15 lbs but gained 5 back. I just want to give you all the info I can. I did at go to get an MRI a while ago and they said I might have a fatty liver. One more thing I was told my a doctor that it showed I have had Hepatitis A sometime in my past. I would like to know how concerned I should be about this. I will stop taking any medicine that is not prescribed and will retake the blood test in 2 weeks but I need to get sleep and quite honestly this has me a little freaked out. I appreciate anyhelp you can give me. Thank you

Brief Answer:
Fatty liver possible, keep low fat diet.

Detailed Answer:
Hello dear , welcome Ask a doctor's service
I read your query and here is my advice.

I think the elevated liver enzymes may be related to fatty liver since you are having elevated cholesterol and triglycerides levels.
Keep a low fat diet, using grapefruit juice can help them to get low.
Also having low thyroid is known to elevate the liver enzymes. Keeping your thyroid function stabilised will help you normalise them.
Don't take antinflamatory drugs such acetaminophen because they elevate the liver enzymes.
Doing an ultrasound is helpful to check the structure of liver.

Hope I have answered the question.
