Question: Hi, I was recently hospitalized due to alcohol poisoning, I had a bac of .26 and the ambulatory team initially expected opioids, even though I did not take them. They took a portable chest xray because my O2 levels were 48% and the doctor noted that my lungs were grossly clear. I was wondering what grossly meant in that context. I've also had a pretty bad cough since then (4 days ago) and I was wondering at what point I should go to the doctor.

Brief Answer:
can be seen now if the cough is severe

Detailed Answer:
HI, thanks for using healthcare magic

Coughing can be related to different factors, it can be due to post nasal drip of mucus in the throat, excess mucus in the airways, closure of the airways (eg asthma), irritation of the airways, pneumonia (infection of the lung tissue itself).

It is possible that when the x ray was done there done, there were no changes to be seen as yet, changes may not have developed.

If the cough is bad, you should be seen, you may not be re x rayed but treatment can be started after the cause is determined

This may include: cough suppressants or mucolytics (to break up the mucus if it is a wet cough).
Antibiotics would be given if it is thought to be bacterial

In some persons, medication to open the airways may be needed as well

i hope this helps, feel free to ask any other questions
