Question: Hi, I was diagnosed with a UTI on Monday. I was initially given liquid antibiotics (beginning with a t) as I have an issue swallowing pills but they made me violently sick. I was changed to a capsule which I couldn’t swallow so had to break open which caused swelling and was told to change. I’ve been given another prescription for a new liquid antibiotic, will this work? I’m so scared of having another reaction (I have health anxiety)

Brief Answer:
Take monuril, 2 sackets to devolve in water.

Detailed Answer:
Hello dear, welcome to Ask a doctor service.
I read your query and here is my advice.

The right way to treat an urinary track infection is to do an uroculture which will show which bacteria is causing the infection and which is the right antibiotic that can be used for you.
If you can't do an uroculture I can suggest you to take monuril 3 gr which is taken twice every 12 hours.
So you have to take only two sacks of antibiotic and dissolve it in water and drink it since you can't swallow pills.
You will feel immediate relief.

Hope I have answered the question.

Hi, I’m now on amoxicillin - should this help?

Brief Answer:
Amoxicillin is not preferably used in urinary track infection.

Detailed Answer:
Hello dear and thank you for asking again.
Doing an uroculture will show if the bacteria you are having is sensitive to amoxicillin or not.
Usually amoxicillin is not preferably used to empirically treat an urinary track infection.
I can't say exactly that it will not be helpful using it but usually isn't used for an urinary track infection.
I can recommend you to use monuril.
Let me know if I can assist you further.
Best regards.

Brief Answer:
Trimetoprim is a good choice.

Detailed Answer:
Taking trimetoprim-suflamethoxasol is also a good choice for uti and you can use it but you said it made you vomit and that made you stop it.
You can go back to it if you don't vomit as soon as you take it.

Hi, I was originally prescribed trimethoprim but it made me vomit. Would I be better just going back to this?
