Question: Hi I have high blood pressure and anxiety. The high blood pressure is very high and recent. I have been dizzy and very hot recently. I have also been grinding my teeth and my ears are ringing. My chest is sore.
My doctor has switched my anxiety medication and wants to see me in a month. What about the high blood pressure? I am freaking out. I’ve always had low to normal blood pressure.

Detailed Answer:
Hello!

Welcome to Ask a Doctor service!

I understand your concern and would explain that high blood pressure could be related to the persistent anxiety, which is causing high adrenaline levels in your body.

Propranolol will help improve your situation.

Anyway, if after a week your blood pressure values are still high, I would recommend performing some tests to investigate for other possible causes underlying secondary high blood pressure:

- complete blood count
- thyroid hormone levels for possible thyroid gland dysfunction
- kidney and liver function tests
- blood electrolytes.

Hope you will find this answer helpful!
