Question: Hi, I have had an Incidental discovery of an enlarged appendix (1.9x2.0x5.1) APxMLxCC. The suggest treatment is to remove the appendix plus part of the Cecum including detachment of small intestine and then re-attach the Small intestine further up. Does the size warrant surgery like that?

Brief Answer:
Only Appendix can be removed.

Detailed Answer:
Hi
I would like to have some more information
1.When was enlarged Appendix diagnosed?
2.What is the indication to remove Part of Caecum?
3.Whether they have diagnosed Carcinoid tumor of Appendix?
In routine Appendicitis,I remove only Appendix.Part of the Caecum will be removed only if the place joining Caecum and Appendix (Base)is gangrenous. If the base of Appendix is healthy, Simple Appendicectomy is enough.
Please attach the Report in reports section if possible.
Hope I answered your question. If you have any questions,I will clarify further.
Please.come back with answers to my questions.
Wish you good health

Hi there
I have attached the report for your reference. It was diagnosed this week Tuesday. The Colorectal Surgeon recommends to remove more than just the appendix due to the size and not knowing why the appendix enlarged. In case it is tumor I guess.

Brief Answer:
He is suspecting a rumour

Detailed Answer:
Hi
I saw the Report in detail.
I went through the Medical Literature thoroughly.
In case of muscinous neoplasm, the procedure described by your doctor has to be done. There is a sentence in your report that Muscinous neoplasm has to be excluded. It is.not a routine Appendicitis. It is reported as Mucocele.
You can proceed with the Procedure advised by your doctor.
The removed part of the bowel along with Appendix will be sent for Histopathological examination (Biopsy). Then, exact nature of the disease can be known.
Nothing to worry.
Wish you good health
Regards
