Question: Hi Dr. Tayal, I have a follow-up question (to your XXXXXXX 29 answer). The toe is getting better, pain-wise, and I am able to run almost completely normally. However, my range of motion in the hallux's distal joint is still very poor and I also have persistent swelling of that joint. Typically, with this dislocation injury, how long does it take for both ROM and swelling to return to pre-injury levels.

Brief Answer:
Takes 3-4 weeks.

Detailed Answer:
Hello,
Thanks for posting your query.
The persistent swelling can be due to ruptured extensor muscles that can take 3-4 weeks for complete healing. Doing a regular hot compress and using an elastic brace will prevent any undue stress in the area.
It is best to let it rest for another two weeks and let it heal properly before you start with your rigorous schedule.
I hope this answers your query.
In case you have additional questions or doubts, you can forward them to me, and I shall be glad to help you out.
Wishing you good health.
Regards.
Dr. Praveen Tayal.
