Question: Hi Dr,
My daugther is 7 years old. She had vomiting and diziness yesterday night. She said like if she closes her eyes its like everything around spinning. Even is she opens. After sometime she vomited and slept.
In the morning she is active and no more complaint. What could be the reason? Is it a serious thing and we should go for any tests? Please suggest.

Brief Answer:
Dizziness that has resolved is most likely not serious in a child

Detailed Answer:
Hello, I'm Dr. Branch, thanks for using 'Ask a Doctor'. Now that it sounds like the dizziness has resolved, it would not be anything serious. There are several causes of dizziness in a child, most often from an ear infection, benign paroxysmal vertigo , or migraine syndromes. Of these I think benign paroxysmal vertigo is most likely, the cause of which is unknown, and can often turn into a migraine syndrome as the child gets older. Regardless, if she is not having symptoms now, no evaluation would be needed unless the episodes recur, in which cause I would recommend she see her pediatrician for an examination and further management.

I hope that helps, please let me know if you have any other questions about that, and I would be glad to discuss it with you further.
