Hi Doctor, When I Was 20 (10 Years Ago), I

Question: Hi Doctor,

When I was 20 (10 years ago), I felt a slight tear in my meatus/pee hole while masturbating, elongating it slightly. Over the years, the meatus has continued to slightly lengthen, but incremental enough that it didn't cause me great concern.

This month, though, the meatus has noticeably extended on the upper side -- I'm afraid that it will continue to "split" unless I get help.

Is there anything I can do stop this, and, if not, is there a way that a doctor can stitch it back to its normal length? I've reduced masturbating to 1x per week as that seems to speed up the elongation... do you recommend I reduce that further?

The only negative effect at this point is that pee comes out in two streams sometimes, and increased sensitivity. But I'm afraid that further splitting will cause severe discomfort from ejaculating and/or urinating.

Brief Answer:
Avoid any sexual activities for 2 weeks for it to heal properly

Detailed Answer:
Good day, and thank you for being with 'Ask A Doctor' service!

I am very sorry to hear about your condition. Meatal lacerations happen whenever there is a traumatic activity in the organ, like strenuous sexual activities or masturbation.

I advise you to avoid masturbation until there is no more wound or there is no more pain. This may last up to two weeks so it will be better for you to let your body heal for 2 weeks. normal ejaculation and masturbation would not cause a further opening of the meatus unless there is another one that will open up causing the slit to go further up.

If ever after 2 weeks and you still notice that there is still elongation of the opening then you need to see a Urologist to properly close and fix the opening to avoid urine from splitting.

Regards

Thank you! That is good news. Just for my own knowledge: in the event that it does continue to elongate after the two week period, is the procedure for a Urologist to properly close and fix the opening particularly risky?

Or can I sleep easy knowing that the worst case scenario has a simple & low-risk fix? Thank you again for the thorough answer and taking the time to respond.

Brief Answer:
It is an office procedure done under local anesthesia.

Detailed Answer:
The procedure is often done at the clinic as an office procedure. It is done under local anesthesia and the risk are not life threatening although in some cases there might be narrowing of the opening of the meatus depending on how the body heals itself. Again this is also easily corrected.

Stay safe and have a good day.
