Question: Hi Doctor, My name is Amit and am 40 years old. I have few questions for you. For the last few years, I have been suffering from acidity. Before, I used to drink Gelusil and it would go. But, now, things have worsened. I get up in the middle of night due to acidity and chest pain. The pain reduces only when I drink Gelucil. Whenever I eat even little spicy food, my chest burns so much that it feels it will burst. As a result, I have to drink water after I take a morsel of food. Because of chest pain, I wake up at night. Please suggest as my chest burns all the time.

Brief Answer:
Proton pump inhibitors like Esomeprazole will be helpful.

Detailed Answer:
Hi Ma'am
Thank you for asking ask a doctor service.
I have gone through your query with diligence. Your problem can be most likely GERD (gastro esophageal reflux) associated with gastritis. Gastroesophageal sphincter will become sensitive and cause reflux very often.
Antacids will be helpful to some extent only. You will need proton pump inhibitors like Esomeprazole (Nexium). This is available as over the counter. This can be taken at empty stomach in morning daily for 4 weeks. Avoid fatty spicy and greasy foods as this will irritate the gastroesophageal sphincter. Carbonated drinks and coffee should be avoided also.
If there is no improvement then you need a gastroenterologist consultation.
Let me know if anything not clear.
I am happy to help you.
Thanks.

Thank you for your advice. I have started taking Nexium tablet from today. I have two more queries. I was bitten by a stray dog today. Hence, I am going to start anti-rabies vaccine from tomorrow. Does Nexium interfere in the process of my body producing antibody against the rabies virus? Also, I have 2 children. One is 5 and the other is 2.5 years old. Can you please prescribe a tablet for Vitamin D that I can give them? Thank you and looking forward to your reply.

Brief Answer:
No Problem in taking Nexium while taking vaccine.

Detailed Answer:
Welcome again.

Thank you for your follow-up query.

There is no problem in taking Nexium while you are taking rabies vaccine.
For vitamin D - You can give them Vitamin D3 syrups like Uprise D3. or Vitamin D3 tablet 400 IU. You can give 400 IU daily dosage for both. But before giving check their Vitamin D3 levels in blood.

Thanks.
