Hi Doctor, My Mother Is Feeling So Tired From Last

default

Question: Hi Doctor,

My mother is feeling so tired from last couple of months. Even if she walks for ~200 meters, she is tired and trying to sit down. Few years back, she got Chikungunya infection and from that time, her right leg is impacted. Some doctors recommended for joint replacement too for her right leg.

Now she is saying, burning sensation in all the joints including leg and hand. Also, her right leg is swelling little if she walks little as well.

We have consulted Ortho doctor and as per him, she is lacking some vitamins and he has given multivitamin syrup and tables which she is taking now. Whenever she takes an injection from Ortho doctor for Vitamins, she is feeling very good for 1 or 2 days after that, she is feeling little tired.

Now, very slight improvement is there. But still she couldn't walk much or able to cook or do household work.

Hence please check and advise on how we can proceed further. Shall we continue with the Ortho Specialists (or) should we consult with Neurologist (or) some others? Please advise.

Thank you!

Hello, and welcome to 'Ask A Doctor'

Thanks for posting your query.

I have gone through your query. Recovery from chikungunya is like that. It takes 3 months, 6 months or even a year for the pains to go away, which defers from patient to patient. So all we can do is give her temporary relief from pain.

She can take:
Tab. Etoricoxib 90 mg 1-0-0 for 5 days
Tab. Nusaid P 0-0-1 for 5 days
Cap. Becadexamin once daily for 30 days
Tab. Calcimax forte Plus once daily for 30 days.
Hot fomentation on the painful areas or joints.
Apply Omni Gel on the affected area.
This treatment is for sudden painful episodes when it doesn't reduce even with simple painkillers.

On other days she can take Tab. DOLO 650mg as and when required maximum 3 times a day for pain relief.

If the pain is purely due to chikungunya then a neurologist opinion would not be useful. You can follow up with General physician or orthopedician if it worsens. You can try the above medicines for a week or two and see for any improvement.

I hope this helps. Please feel free to discuss further if any.

Hi XXXXXXX

Thank you for the response.

FYI: My mother got Chikungunya before 6 years and she has recovered from that as well. She was fine till Aug 2020

Suddenly from last 2 months, she is feeling tired. Even if she walks for ~200 meters, she is tired and trying to sit down.

When she got Chikungunya in 2014, her right leg was impacted. Some doctors recommended for joint replacement for her right leg too which we didn't go through yet.

Detailed Answer:
Hi,

Okay, If she is having burning sensation in all her joints and pain then I would suggest she gets a complete set of blood tests and MRI whole Spine to rule out any nerve compression. I would suggest you go to an ortho spine surgeon for a detailed examination and investigations.

I hope this helps. Please feel free to discuss further if any.
