Question: Hi Doctor,
My daughter is 3 years old.
She is having blocked nose and cough since past 10-12 days. Sometimes it seems to be less and sometimes it seems to be more. There is no fever associated. We have tried following till date:
1. We had given her Alerid for initial 3-4 days and after that we are giving her Montair LC for past 4-5 days now.
2. We are giving her Steam and also we nebulized her for 4-5 days with Levolin .63 mg as suggested by the doctor.
3. We are using Nasivion nasal drops 1-2 times a day.

Having tried all this, her cough and nose block is still there. Sometimes nose seems to be runny in between. What shall we do now? Shall we continue with the medicines or shall we leave it on time to get it settled? or any other medication required? Please suggest.

Regards,

Brief Answer:
ENT examination can be helpful

Detailed Answer:
Thanks for using the Ask a Doctor service. Sorry for the inadvertent delay in responding.

I have gone carefully through your query. Let me try to address the issues one by one:
1. 2. and 3. The medicines are proper and it is good that you are giving steam inhalation as well. Most often such episodes are due to viral infection and can sometimes last for 10-15 days. Please continue the medicines that you are currently giving. No other medicine is needed and it should actually settle with time. Nevertheless, I would insist you to get blood tested for CRP (C-Reactive protein) and CBC. It might also be worthwhile to see an ENT specialist who will be able to examine if the tonsils/adenoids are enlarged and whether there could be something else contributing to the nasal block.

Feel free to write back.
