Question: Hey doctor,

I have had this cold for about 7 and half day’s now and I’m just at this point where I feel like it’s stayed the same. I’m constantly having this runny/blocked nose where I’m having to blow my nose a lot to control it and at day 7 I thought it would’ve calmed down a bit but it’s still the same. At what point do you think I should get it checked out can it possibly be something worse like sinusitis? I have been using Demazin cold and flu syrup most days which has

Chlorpheniramine maleate 1.25 mg/5 mL & Phenylephrine hydrochloride 2.5 mg/5 mL. Contains: Sorbitol (6.3 g/60 mL)

Is it safe to use oral Phenylephrine for a week? I haven’t used it every day there’s probably be a day or two that I haven’t can having dry sinuses actually cause a sinus infection or would this be helpful? Is there anything else I can do to help it a long or is it just a matter of riding the cold out how long can they persist for?

Brief Answer:
Hii. You are having allergic rhinitis. This is due to allergic inflammation

Detailed Answer:
Hii. You are having allergic rhinitis. This is due to allergic inflammation of your nose and sinuses. You should consult an Ent surgeon at this stage only otherwise it can aggravate. You can start fluticasone and saline nasal spray which will decrease the allergy. Take steam inhalation. You can take levocetrizine or allergra tablet which will also help you to reduce allergic inflammation. No need for other drugs. You can get a nasal endoscopy and an x ray paranasal sinus done to see inside of the nose and sinus. Stay away from allergens like cold, dust, polen grains, insect, dandruff of cat. It is safe to use chlorpheniramine for 1 week. No need for cough syrup for prolonged period. If you are having allergic cough then you can start betadine gargle and bromhexine lozenges. Betadine gargle will help to prevent any infection to grow in the throat. Drink more water. Do yoga or running exercise as it will help in increasing immunity of the body. Please review if you have any queries.

Hey doctor thanks for the reply I’ve now noticed the mucus is a lot thicker and kind of green but there is still bouts of white. I’ve also still got that foul smell when I blow my nose is it possible that the cold I had is developing into a sinus infection?
