Brief Answer:
These are age related degenerative changes.

Detailed Answer:
Hello,
Thanks for posting your query.
Your mother has age related degenerative changes in the knee joint. These changes cannot be completely reversed but further progression of problem can be retarded and she can be painfree with proper medicines and regular physiotherapy.
The duration of treatment depends on the severity of her symptoms. Usually 3 months treatment with pain killers, joint lubricant supplements and extensive physiotherapy help in recovery.
With advancing age the symptoms may reappear after 1-2 years after which again she will need treatment. This progression can be delayed only if she regularly continues with the physiotherapy.
In case the pain is severe and is not controlled then surgery is the last resort.
I hope this answers your query.

Ok sir, as we know she cant straighten her legs fully she has to use pillow while sleeping, is this due to condromalacia patallae? Since she has grade 4 condromalacia patallae and its last stage. Can physiotherapy and joint lubricants help in that case?

Brief Answer:
Medicines can help to some extent.

Detailed Answer:
Problem in straightening legs is due to chondromalacia patellae. Even in stage IV medicines can help in reducing the pain. Physiotherapist can help in further mobility.
The response can be seen 4-6 weeks after starting the treatment.

Brief Answer:
Details below.

Detailed Answer:
If surgery is needed then it is best to get a knee replacement surgery done. The success rate depends on multiple issues and can be estimated only after a detailed examination and blood tests and associated problems. This can be assessed only by her surgeon.
Pain in thigh can be related to muscle spasm caused by stress on muscle due to chondromalacia patellae.
