Question: Hello hope all is well I had a mammogram in 2/19 a routine one and in the past 25 years my mammograms have always been normal. I was called back for extra views of my left breast. The radiologist ordered the views and did a sonogram. The tech did the sonogram and said there's on;
ly a complicated cyst nothing alarming. Then the radiologist came in and said nothing to worry about she did the US again and seen the complicated cyst she said is was 3mm with punctuate microcalccifications associated. she asked me to come back in 6 months for Diagnostic mammon's and poss US tHE RADIOLOGIST REPORT WENT LIKE THIS THERE ARE SCATTERED AREAS OF FIBROGLANDULAR DENSITY.THERE IS A 4 MM CIRCUMSCRIBED OVAL NODULE WITH ASSOCIATED PUNCATE MICROCALCIFICATIONS. SONOGRAPHY TARGETING THIS AREA DEMONSTRATES A PROBABLE COMPLICATED CYST MEASURING 0.4CM CIRCUMSCRIBED, OVAL, PARALLEL, FLATTENED AT 11.00 5 CM FROM THE NIPPLE NONPALPABLE WITH ABSENT VASCULARITY.PROBABLY BENIGN FINDINGSM COMPLICATED CYST, BACKGROUND FIBROCYSTIC CHANGES FOLLOW UP LEFT BREAST DIAGNOSTIC MAMMOGRAN IN 6 MONTH US IF NEEDED BIRADS 3 PLEASE LET ME KNOW YOUR THOUGHT I BELIEVE THIS IS A COMPLICATED BREAST CYST WITH SOME PUNCATE MICROCALCIFICATIONS IS THIS CANCER OR COULD BE OR IS THIS REALLY A BENIGN PROCESS I SO WORRIED. PLEASE LET ME KNOW YOUR THOUGHTS

Brief Answer:
Probably benign.

Detailed Answer:
Hi,
Thanks for the query.
The given cyst fall in to BIRADS3 lesion and it will be benign most probably. Malignancy( cancer) is very unlikely and there is no features of definitive malignancy given in the mammo.
You can go for an ultrasound guided FNAC ( fine needle aspiration) or excision to get a tissue diagnosis.
Consult a general surgeon and he will direct you accordingly.
Wishing all the best,
Thanks

Brief Answer:
Nothing much to worry only follow up is required.

Detailed Answer:
Hi,
Punctate calcification is not a sign of malignancy,
Only follow up scan is required in every six months.
If you are so worried, you can go for an ultrasound guided biopsy.
