Question: Hello doctor
This is Namarata from XXXXXXX UK I am super paranoid about this current crisis going on in this country and need your expert advise . Today I had a parcel delivered to me from XXXXXXX for which they needed I’d verification and since it’s not safe for face to face conversation I showed my id through the glass window and the person was standing right outside opposite side of the window and took note of teh I’d and left . The entire procedure took around a minute or two . Am I at risk here . The window was closed as per my knowledge not sure if it has any ventilation opening . Have not seen such thing till now . I have attached pics of the window through which I showed my I’d to the delivery guy . Olds do take a look and let me know if I am at risk

Brief Answer:
There is 0% risk of infection from this situation.

Detailed Answer:
Dear Namarata,

Welcome to Ask a Doctor service!

I understand your concern and would explain that there is no risk of infection from this type of action.

So, try to relax and don't worry about it!

The glass of the window can protect you 100% from the virus. Besides outside there is a lot of air and even if the delivery person were infection, the virus is diluted in the circulating air and there would be really an insignificant percentage of virus in the air behind the window.

So, there is no reason to panic.

From the other hand, you should know that with a good mask in a supermarket or anywhere else, the risk is low. So, it is OK to live with the virus with caution (wear a good mask everywhere when you are out and wash your hands frequently or use a hand sanitizer if washing is not possible).

You should think about the doctors, who work in the hospital wearing masks, surrounded by infected persons all the time and they don't get infected.

To conclude, it is OK to take caution and act in a responsible way (as you are doing), but you should try not to panic.

Everything is going to be OK! I wish all other persons were so responsible like you!

Hope you will find this information helpful!

I remain at your disposal in case of further questions whenever you need!

Wishing all the best,

Dr. Ilir Sharka, Cardiologist
