Question: Hello,
My wife is 31 yo and went to the hairdressers on Thursday afternoon.
She had her head in a wash basing for approx 30 minutes getting her hair done. (This is the type when a pad pushes against your neck and head hangs into the basin whilst sitting down).
She came home and later went to bed with a sore neck and headache.

She woke up Friday morning with sore muscles in both of her forearms and inner thighs. It hurts her to squeeze her hands/hold a pen and he thighs hurt when squatting etc. She says it feels like she has done a big gym workout.

Since Friday the pain has stayed constant with some relief from paracetamol.

She woke up this morning and now saying both her calves are feeling the same as her arms and inner thigh which pain has remained the same.

She is on Lovan antidepressants and no other medication.

GP has done blood work and said her white blood cells are slightly higher then normal, due to a previous cold. (Exact figure unsure).

He has ordered a MRI to check for pinched nerves etc.
He is also saying it could be

Neuropraxia
Guillain-Barre Syndrome etc

Really worried and need some information or help.
Thank you

Brief Answer:
I don't see a reason for a serious neurological condition.

Detailed Answer:
Hello.

I have read your query and here is my advice.

Sore neck and headaches after such head and neck positions are most likely positional and of musculoskeletal origin.

Other symptoms from the next day until now are mostly muscle aches.

Conditions that may cause such symptoms are electrolyte imbalances, adverse effects of drugs, excessive physical activity, viral infections, etc.

So, I don't see a reason to think about Guillain-Barre or any serious neurological condition.

Anyway, these neurological conditions may be assessed easily by a Neurologist, so, I think, it is advisable in your wife's case to see a Neurologist.

Hope you found the answer helpful.

Let me know if I can assist you further.

Hello,
Thank you for the reply.
It just seems concerning that the day after she went to the hair dressers and her neck position that her arms and legs are sore.

The pain in her legs has now gone down to her calves. All of the pain in each part is the same.

What could cause the muscle pain in different areas and the pain to spread?

Her firearms that hurt makes it hard for her to squeeze/write.

Thank you

Brief Answer:
A certain degree of spinal cord compression to consider also.

Detailed Answer:
Okay.

It is also possible, besides the conditions mentioned before, that there was a spinal cord compression during that head and neck position.

This may result in pain in different body parts down the cervical spine.

Since the pain is going down, in few days it should subside nearly totally.

Of the symptoms persist for more than a couple of weeks, further evaluation by the Neurologist may be needed.

Hope I helped you.

Feel free to ask if you have further questions.
