Hello. I Ve Been Having A Tenderness In My Kidney

default
Posted on Sun, 29 Sep 2019
Question: Hello. I've been having a tenderness in my kidney area for the past 6 weeks or so. Since I am usually able to find relief in resting positions, I thought it might be simple back pain. However, it seems to have progressed, to be localized and deeper, and definitely more tender to the touch and with motion... especially when bending to the left.

I do have some intermittent symptoms of lupus (butterfly rash, joint aches, nostril sores, mildly bubbly urine), so I'm wondering if this is possibly connected.

I don't notice many other symptoms such as jaundice or bowel issues, but am concerned about the possibility of pancreas, liver, gallbladder, or kidney problems.

Is this worth a visit to the ER?

Brief Answer:
An ultrasound abdomen should be done.

Detailed Answer:
Hello and thanks for choosing "Ask a Doctor " service for your query,
Have seen your details,
Very likely the pain could be musculoskeletal,However the only problem is that the pain is not relieved on changing postures secondly its getting deeper.
Musculoskeletal pain usually responds to change in posture.
From my side i would suggest you to go for an ultrasound of abdomen to rule out any possibility of gallbladder stone or kidney stone etc even major liver abnormalities could also be ruled out by it.
Once scan is normal you could take any over the counter muscle relaxant in combination with anti inflammatory like Ibugesic for few days.
In case its musculo skeletal it would respond to anti inflammatory.
