Hello. I Used A Specific Product, Which Is A Combination

Question: Hello. I used a specific product, which is a combination of natural wood and seed oils, to clean wood (my guitar). Looks like I didn't use it properly so it wasn't absorbed by the wood as it was supposed to but instead got on my hands while I was playing the guitar. Now I can't get this off my hands. The palms of my hands are sticky for a week already and I just can't wash it off even with acetone. Is there anyway to remove this? Maybe the oil blend was absorbed by the skin? Will it eventually come off when the skin renews itself? If so how long can it take? Seems like other parts of my body became sticky too from touching and washing with sticky hands i think. It's driving me nuts. It feels like the palms of my hands have wax on them when the hands become wet. Someone recommended trying to remove it with paint thinner. Is there anything else that could help clean this off?

Brief Answer:
Use a salicylic acid product to help exfoliate dead skin

Detailed Answer:
Hello. Thank you for writing to us

I am dr.kakkar (dermatologist). I have gone through your query and I have noted your concern.

I think the oil blend was too harsh for your skin and the affected skin areas would exfoliate. To hasten the process you may use a topical salilcylic acid 3% or 6% ointment (also used for callus, callosity) once daily night to exfoliate superficial dead skin layers i.e stratum corneum. Repeated washing would make it more dry and would feel like tightness of skin and waxy smooth surface.

Thank you, Dr. Kakkar. Do you know any salucylic product 3% or 6% that is over te counter? I only found Neutrogena but it had salucylic acid 2%.

Also, i was also thinking to use peeling pads that have Alpha and Beta hydroxy acids, Glycolic acid. This is the product: http://drdennisgross.com/skincare/product-type/peels/extra-strength-alpha-beta-daily-peel.html

Lastly, will the skin clear out of this by itself eventually? I feel like some other parts of my body, including genitals, that i perhaps touched with my hands are sticky now too. Will it eventually clear out by itself?

Thank you!

Brief Answer:
The skin would eventually clear

Detailed Answer:
Hi.

Yes, the skin would eventually clear out by itself. In fact, on second thought I would recommend that you may infact only use a moisturiser Or a moderately potent topical steroid cream e.g triamcinolone acetonide 0.1% cream Or mometasone furoate 0.1% cream, twice daily and allow the skin to exfoliate itself over few days rather than expose it to further to harsh products.

Dr. Kakkar. Would you be able to recommend an over the counter product or what you recommended is by prescription? What if the oil penetrated deep into the skin (if I remember correctly the skin consists of multiple layers) - will it clear out eventually anyway? It has been over a week and i dont see any improvements. The skin is still sticky .

Brief Answer:
May take upto 4 weeks

Detailed Answer:
Hi.

It might take upto 4 weeks for your skin to return back to normal as this is the normal turnover time of epidermis.
The creams I suggested are prescription steroids. You may use just a simple otc moisturizer.

Thank you, Dr. Kakkar. So i spoke with a guitar technician and he told me that it's somewhat common that the laquer may become soft on the guitar neck and perhaps it's the soft laquer that perhaps mixed with the oil that i put on it and thats what made my hands sticky. This got to other parts of my body (underarms and genitals) probably while taking a shower after i got the laquer innmy hands. They said it's some nitro lacquer. I guess it explains why the acetone nor the paint thinner didn't remove it. So given that it's lacquer you still think i should use a moisturizer? It's been two weeks since it happened and i still dont see much of an improvement although maybe it is a little better. If still usemoisturizer is this one ok: https://www XXXXXXX com/gp/aw/d/B001V9SXXU/ref=pd_aw_fbt_194_img_3?ie=UTF8&psc=1&refRID=KRE5333HJPEGJEW7E32M

Brief Answer:
Moisturiser

Detailed Answer:
Hi

yes, use this or any simple moisturiser e.g even vaseline or parafin would be Ok. A moisturiser would be the best thing to use. It would help skin recover.
