Question: Hello, I recently saw my hematocrit was high at 51.1. Hemoglobin was normal at 15.7. Is this this something to be concerned about and should i drain blood or donate. How long does it take to climb higher? just last month my hematocrit was 47 so it jumped a great deal in a short amount of time

Brief Answer:
It can be due dehydration.

Detailed Answer:
Hi, dear
I have gone through your question. I can understand your concern.

Your hematocrit is somewhat higher but your hemoglobin is normal. Single high value is not much important.

If you don't have any symptoms then no treatment is required right now.

You should repeat your complete blood count after 3 weeks. If it remains persistently high or it increase further then you need to investigate for polycythemia Vera. Right now no treatment is required. Just be relaxed. It can be increased temporarily due to some secondary cause like dehydration. So repeat testing is required.

Hope I have answered your question. If you have any doubts then feel free to ask me. I will be happy to answer. Thanks for using health care magic.
Wish you a very good health.
