Suggest Remedies For A Dislocated Ankle Post An Accident

Question: Hello, I fell off my bike and dislocated my left ankle. The doctor adjusted it and pushed it back into the socket. I feel better but he wants to do surgery; says one of the smaller bones is slightly out and he wants to put a screw thru it and connect it to the bigger bone. I'm not sure about him doing this because I come from a small island where doctors do unnecessary procedures to make money, and I can't get a second opinion because he is the only orthopedic surgeon here. I have the pictures of the X-Ray from his email to me, but I can't attach it to this note as its not allowing it. I want you to see them so you get a better understanding. I can email them to you if you give me an address to send them.

Brief Answer:
Ankle dislocation is usually associated with fracture.

Detailed Answer:
Hello,
Thanks for posting your query.
The ankle dislocation is usually associated with fracture. The fracture in the ankle needs an internal fixation with the screw. But the best evaluation can be done after seeing the X-ray. Brief Answer:
Surgery is needed.

Detailed Answer:
Hello.
Thanks for writing again.
I have seen the attached X-rays. You have bimalleolar pott's fracture with intra articular extension. On X-ray the reduction is satisfactory but the intra articular extension needs a rigid fixation with screws. So, surgery is a better option for proper healing in your case.
Hope my answer is helpful.

One more question about the intra-articular extension, Potts fracture of the ankle. What if I decide not to get the surgery (rigid fixation wt screws). What can be the end result of that? Could the fracture heal on its own and I will walk normal or will I develop a limp or not walk normally? Thanks.

Brief Answer:
It can cause ankle stiffness.

Detailed Answer:
If you avoid the surgery then the fracture fragments may get dislocated if you do not take proper rest and can cause stiffness of the joint. The bones will heal without a surgery also.
Regards.
