Question: Hello,

I am extremely overweight and I have tried everything from dieting and exercise to fasting to supplements and nothing seems to be helping me.

I want to have a weight loss surgery but would like to know which, in your opinion, is the most effective while also being the most cost efficient.

Bariatric surgery is usually advised for a person when his/her BMI is >40 kg/m2 or >35 kg/m2 and also with associated co-morbidities.

The criteria suggested in the NICE update (2014) is when BMI >50kg/m2, surgery is the option of choice when all other interventions fail.

There are different types of Bariatric surgery. An expert bariatric Surgeon will be the best person to decide on the type of surgery you need, as per your needs. Cost also will change according to the type of surgery.
