Question: Hello. I am a 76 year old woman with a history of stage 2 Parkinsons disease. I also have a history of recurring UTI infections and colitis. Several months ago I got admitted into the Hostpital for UTI infection. My infection keeps recurring. Eventually I wound up with a bedsore on my backside which is stage 4 and down to the bone. I started having so many seizures that the Hostpital had to put me on 3 sezuire medications including Keppra of the 3 by IV. I HAD A COLNOSCOPY BAG PUT IN THROUGH SURGERY BECAUSE MY FECES WAS INFECTING MY ULCER ON MY BACKSIDE. I WAS PUT ON A FEEDING TUBE FOR ASPERATION. sorry FOR CAPS. I also have a perforated colon. I have not had a sizure in 4 months but the hostpital still has me on seizure medication. The Hospital keeps pushing me to do hospice but I am mentally with it and my vitals are fine. I have had cdif and sepsis in the past but cleared know. The Hospital wanted me in Hospice several months ago but I made it through surgery for the colonoscopy bag. My question is can I hangin their and refuse hospice at this time and can all this eventually be reversed? recently a plastic surgeon at the Hostpital refused to do surgery on me becuause he says my body isn't absorbing the nutrients from my feeding tube and again pushing Hospice on me. My nurse friend said she has never heard of that before. Thank you.

Brief Answer:
You may need more time to recover.

Detailed Answer:
Hello dear, welcome to Ask a doctor service.
I read your query and here is my advice.

You can refuse hospice till you get fully cured.

I think you may need to do an uroculture and take the right treatment for uti in order to cure it.
Also you need to treat the backside wound completely.
Also you may need to improve feeding and get rid of feeding tube and colonostomy.
I believe you may need to stay in hospital for longer rather than going to hospice.

Hope I have answered the question.
Let me know if I can assist you further.
