Question: Hello, I am a 54 year old male and have had breathing problems for a couple of years. I am fine if I am sitting down or sleeping however I can complete a trip to the grocery store without running out of breath. I also sweat excessively when this happens. I have 3 trips to the emergency room because my heart was beating over 180 beats per minute. All 3 times they had to take it down to zero and put an IV in me to have it beat at a normal pace again. I lost my job and my health insurance, I am now being seen at the VA hospital. Can you please give me a indication of what to do. Thanks

Brief Answer:
need evaluation...

Detailed Answer:
Hi,

From your description, you have breathlessness on exertion (accustomed work). The causes could be related to smoking, cardiac changes, anemia and other condition. You will need to be investigated to understand the specific cause. Investigations will include complete hemogram, ECG, chest X-ray and if necessary echo / TMT and lung function tests.

I understand you are currently uninsured. However the symptoms, you have are not be ignored. If the current doctors are not be able carry out tests, you can wait until you are covered by insurance. Until then avoid strenuous physical activities including running, climbing flight of stairs, weight lifting and others.

Hope this helps. Let me know if you need clarifications.

Regards
