Question: Hello I am a 25 male. Back in December of 2017, I had a cat scan done because of stomach pain. Everything can back normal except for the fact I had multiple pulmonary lung nodules. The pulmonologist said not to worry, nothing looked serious and I had no other symptoms. Well I had a rescan done 6 months later and still nothing has changed. Fast forward to present day and I have had an on and off congested right nostril following a sinus infection? However, I read about someone who passed away from Granulomatosis with polyangiitis, and I heard it can start out as simple lung nodules. I’m afraid that is what I have, and it is just a slow progressing? Please advise thank you.

Please do as follows

Detailed Answer:
Hello and welcome in Ask the Doctor

I read carefully the history of your concerns

As you explain the situation yes the lung nodules might be from several granulomatous diseases such as rheumatoid diseases other autoimmune diseases such sarcoidosis but even some specific infections might be the cause.

Nevertheless if you want to examine for polyangitiis you should do some blood tests:

ANA XXXXXXX Andi DNA,anti CENTROMERE,SCL7

Please you should discuss with your doctor first and then do it.If the results are positive than it will be the treatment. If not than a gold standard of the nodules is the biopsy of them to have the correct diagnosis and further the treatment.
