Hello, I Am 31 Years Old, Male. I Suffered A

Question: Hello,

I am 31 years old, male. I suffered a football injury to my knee in February 2019 after getting right foot stuck on ground whilst twisting knee, causing an immediate tear feeling and intense pain. I had an MRI scan which the doctor told me showed a bucket handle tear on the outside of the meniscus, everything else intact including all ligaments.

Now 6-7 months after following rest and rehab guidelines, I am having a particular problem with my knee. Specifically, there is a lump/hard mass I can feel with my fingers that is just above my kneecap, pretty much ‘’underneath’’ the quad tendon. This I believe is causing me not be able to run properly, and do things with comfort like descending stairs. I can climb up the stairs and double leg squat however. The best way to describe what triggers the pain is if I am sat in a chair and extend my right leg outwards and hold it for 5 seconds, then when I try to bring my leg back to resting position with my foot returning to the floor, there is sharp knee pain around the kneecap area as I lower my leg.

Can you tell me what the problem could be, in particular with this lump/hard mass that has formed under my quad tendon?

Thanks

Brief Answer:
Lump is due to torn meniscus.

Detailed Answer:
Hello,
Thanks for posting your query.
As per your description the lump that you can feel is the torn meniscus that has not healed. This needs to be removed arthroscopically. This can be confirmed after an MRI scan. Surgery will help in painless knee movements and you can return to your normal activities in 4-6 weeks after surgery.
I hope this answers your query.
