Hello doctor! I forgot to tell you that I have done two fasting blood sugar readings recently, with these results: 95 mg (5.3 British scale) about 10 days ago, and 98 (5.5) this morning.
Thanks.

Brief Answer:
Peripheral neuropathy is possible, other conditions to consider as well.

Detailed Answer:
Hello and welcome to "Ask a Doctor" service.

I have read your query and here is my advice.

In my opinion, since these sensitive and occasionally painful symptoms, need to be evaluated further by tests.

It is true that peripheral neuropathy may cause such symptoms, but diabetes is not the only cause for this.

Other conditions to consider include low vitamin B12, compression on nerves, viral infections, etc.

Besides neuropathy, tumors are very unlikely to cause such symptoms, but, other conditions such as demyelinating diseases (multiple sclerosis for example) should be considered as well.

Before to decide the best treatment way, a correct diagnosis is necessary and, for this, tests (blood tests for vitamin B12 levels, inflammation levels, MRI of the brain and spine, etc.) are necessary.

Discuss with your Neurologist for these issues.

Hope you found the answer helpful.

Let me know if I can assist you further.

Thank you for your helpful response Dr. Spaho, and apologies for my long silence. I've taken the time to do some more research on the Internet based upon your comments.
Given the complex and potentially long series of tests that could be involved (long in terms of number of elapsed days), are you able to pass my Report (with the request I state inside it) to another neurologist who might be focused upon managing pain and anxiety over the time that it could take to reach the right diagnosis?
I need to report that the waiting time to get a consultation with a neurologist is now about 3 months, I am told. That means the tests you advise will begin about 3 months from today.
I am sure that you know better than I that mind-body linkages can create a situation in which pain and anxiety become a big part of the problem, as people wait to find the right diagnosis; which means to me that this particular aspect of the case management is an urgent matter (while we work on finding the right diagnosis). No?
My question is this: what is the recommended strategy for managing pain and anxiety while the search for the correct diagnosis is underway?
Thanks in advance for your help.

Brief Answer:
Anxiolytic drugs may help in your case.

Detailed Answer:
Welcome back.

Before to leave the culprit to anxiety, other possible diseases (mentioned before) should be excluded.

In the meantime, the use of anxiolytic drugs may result in pain improvement too, since the majority of these drugs have antineuralgic properties too.

Anxiolytic drugs are delivered only by prescription, so, it is necessary to discuss with your primary care Doctor for this issue.

Hope this helps.

feel free to discuss with me if you have further questions.
