Question: Hello Doctor, My wife Prathibha was identified with ANA . She was asked to take HCQ 200 once for a week before sleep and later she was asked to increase the dosage to twice (After breakfast and dinner). She has started to see rashes on her skin since the dosage was increased. We consulted doctor and they decided to get ANA profile test done. Till then we will stop HCQ. She had no allergies till date and she don't have sugar or BP. Now my worry is about her rashes on her both hands and how bad ANA can affect when we plan for a baby.

Brief Answer:
What is the diagnoses

Detailed Answer:
Hi,

Thanks for the query.

Positive ANA is vague , There are many conditions which present with positive ANA. Few amongst them are inherited and some are not.

I would suggest you to go for further evaluation to find out the exact diagnosis based on which I could be able ti say whether it will be inherited by your baby.

Hope, I was clear.

Thanks, Doctor. While I revert back with the reports on ANA profile, is there anything I can do for her rashes? She is taking Cetrizine for now and stopped consuming HCQ 200. No improvements for itchy rashes yet.

Brief Answer:
Scleroderma

Detailed Answer:
Hi,

Thanks for the reports.

The ANA profile shows weak positivity to Scl. Which is seen in a condition called scleroderma. This I believe is unrelated to the rashes she has.

Also, since its weakly positive there is no need for any intervention for scleroderma.

The rashes needs antihistaminic medications as i mentioned earlier and need to be diagnosed after evaluating further.
